Justin Roberts was one of the great ring announcers of WWE and now for AEW as well, but when was he released from the company?
AEW ring announcer Justin Roberts was a regular for WWE. He also announced several pay-per-views and main shows like RAW, SmackDown and ECW. He was a mainstay in WWE for 12 years and ultimately became WWE’s lead ring announcer. Let us find out more about AEW ring announcer Justin Roberts and his release.
WWE has a history of some great ring announcers from Howard Finkel, Tony Chimel, Lilian Garcia, and currently Mike Rome. Ring announcers are an integral part of the show as they hype the fans and create a sense of interest.
Justin Roberts, a mainstay in WWE for 12 years, suddenly joined Tony Khan’s promotion All Elite Wrestling. He was released by WWE in October 2014 as his contract was not renewed.
The announcement was made on WWE’s social media handles and websites, they wished him all the best for his future endeavors, and within a period, he turned his way towards AEW.
Roberts officially joined AEW on April 3 2019, within just 3 months after the company’s launching. He is the promotion’s lead ring announcer and has been working on Dynamite, Dark, Dark Elevation, PPVs.
Roberts started his journey with WWE in 2002 when he got a job on SmackDown, followed by the RAW brand. He also worked on Velocity and Heat as a full-time Raw live event announcer.
He rose to the peak of his profession when he announced the main event of WrestleMania XXIV between Edge and The Undertaker on March 30, 2008. At WrestleMania XXVII, he worked as the sole announcer for the whole show. Roberts even took over the RAW announcing duties from Lilian Garcia.
The ring announcer spoke with Cult of Whatever (h/t IW Nerd) about his time in WWE and the most challenging part of working with the company.
“The most nerve-racking thing was that I wasn’t allowed any note cards with the wrestler’s towns and weights etc and I didn’t have an earpiece so no one was able to feed me any of the information, so a lot of the time I didn’t know what to say or when I was supposed to speak. When I was there they were really long announcements where not only did you introduce the wrestlers but introduced the match stipulations, the rules of the match, if the winner of the match would get a title shot at so and so PPV. Then the match could be a four-way and I had to remember all of that information off the top of my head.”
The ring announcer recently celebrated 25 years in the pro-wrestling business. Unfortunately, there was a lack of presence on December 8, 2021, at AEW, which led to various speculation.
