Miro wins his first belt at AEW as he becomes new TNT champion
This week’s AEW Dynamite saw the TNT title change hands as Miro took on Darby Allin. The encounter was largely one-sided when it came to offence.
And the Game Over submission hold by Miro was enough to hand him his title win on All Elite Wrestling. He made his debut all the way back in September 2020.
That came after he was released by WWE in April 2020 because of Covid-19 impacting the company’s finances.
Allin’s reign ended at 187 days and with Miro’s victory being dominant, it is likely that he will stay as a champion for a while.
Allin had Sting by his side but even that wasn’t enough to carry him through. As for Miro, he had one special fan watching and cheering him on.
His wife, Lana (whose real name is CJ Perry), commented on Miro’s Instagram post celebrating the title win.
Lana and Miro married each other in 2016 while they were still working together in WWE. Back then, the two were in an on-screen relationship as well.
Rusev, as he was called in WWE, never really made the impact that he would have liked on WWE.
Especially his gimmick as an anti-American, Russian villain failed to generate the response it would have wanted to because, well, he is not from Russia at all in the first place.
At AEW, his character seems to have direction. He’s one of the few ex-WWE talents on AEW that can really wrestle inside the ring, with the others either being past their best, or signed just for their brand value.
As for his next storyline, it could be against Lance Archer as he entered the fray after the fight to target Miro but was halted in his tracks then.
