AEW Star Nyla Rose went through a lot before undergoing surgery

In February 2019, Nyla Rose became the first-ever openly transgender wrestler to sign up for a major wrestling promotion when she signed up for the AEW. At the promotion’s inaugural event, Double or Nothing, Rose made her AEW debut.

She also went on to become AEW’s first women’s world champion. She has been an integral part of the AEW since then.

In a recent interview with the Undefeated Rose explained how she feared that her career might end after undergoing gender transition. She revealed that she felt no one would accept her.

“I literally expected it to be the end of my career. I was completely wrong about it, but that was my mindset. I went into it knowing for a fact, ‘I had fun, I did the wrestling thing, this is it, it’s over. I’m gonna put it out there, maybe somebody somewhere might want to hire me, who knows?’ But I’m willing to admit when I’m wrong and I was definitely wrong about that.” [via 411Mania.com]

However, AEW did (accept her) and now she is one of the key members of the promotion.

Nyla Rose opens up on how accepting AEW is

AEW have been catching up with the WWE rapidly. Just two years since its launch, the promotion has made rapid strides and has evolved as the biggest threat to the WWE in ages.

A large part of the credit must go to its CEO Tony Khan. Khan has made sure that the wrestlers feel at home.

Speaking about this, Rose explained how talent has been the only basis on which people are recruited in the AEW.

Rose then expressed her gratitude towards the promotion for “seeing her as a person first.”

“Everyone is there simply because they’re believed to be the best person for the job. They’re not there to tick off any checkmarks or anything. So the fact that it’s not even a thing, it means everything to people like us, because that’s what we want, we just want to be normal. We don’t want to check any boxes or be any affirmative action hires or anything like that. It feels good to be seen as a person first.” [via 411Mania.com]

It is worth noting that Khan did not know Rose was trans when he first signed her. It was later that he revealed that he got to know about her sexuality. However, it made no difference to him, as he felt that was completely cool.
