AEW vs NXT ratings 23 Dec 2020: Separate timeslots still cannot save WWE’s slide

AEW vs NXT ratings: The war between the two wrestling giants continued but this week’s AEW vs NXT battle was a little different.

Both promotions had different timeslots for their Christmas special episodes thanks to the NBA. While NXT was on the regular timeslot, it had a chance to fix its ratings since it went unopposed.

AEW’s Holiday Bash was a couple of hours later than the usual slot. This was due to the NBA game on TNT and that would have helped a few basketball fans transition over to AEW.

However, both shows were down when compared to their viewership from last week. This could have been due to the holiday season and further, this was a trend that followed last year too.

AEW had Sting, once again, as the main talking point during the show. NXT, for their part, tried to do a bit of Christmas cheer with the Garganos while there were a lot of other stories they tried to bring up.

Showbuzz Daily provided the details for this week with AEW, again, defeating WWE. WWE NXT could have taken the march since it was on an earlier timeslot but it only brought in 698,000 viewers.

This was 8.9% below the viewership from last week and it doesn’t make for good reading.

Last week’s NXT got in 766,000 viewers and even though those numbers were down this time around, the Black and Gold brand racked up 0.19 in the key 18-49 demographic.

AEW also got in 0.32 in that demographic and both promotions matched the same numbers from last week.

Dynamite had achieved 806,000 viewers last week while this time around it was 755,000, despite the allure of Sting.

It was still able to beat WWE for another week and it will be interesting to see what is planned by Vince McMahon to arrest the slide in the ratings.
