The AEW vs NXT ratings war took a bit of a back seat this week as tributes for Brodie Lee flowed
This was a different kind of week when it came to the AEW vs NXT ratings war. The passing away of Brodie Lee had united the AEW and WWE roster, to an extent, with both sets of stars doing their bit to share how great a person Lee was.
WWE had tributes for Lee on Raw and NXT while AEW changed the card for this week’s Dynamite. The show was helped set up by Lee’s son and it was a celebration of the life of the former TNT Champion. Lee passed away due to a non-Covid lung issue and that had shocked the world.
AEW decided to hold matches without any real storylines and they hit the ball out of the park. It was extremely emotional with Lee Jr, the son of the fallen wrestler, getting in the action and even being handed the TNT title.
AEW also played several tribute videos for Lee while WWE had one special video made from the comments of their stars.
Lee was popular across the wrestling world and the Dynamite show certainly had a lot of people talking.
AEW vs NXT ratings
Starting off with AEW, they brought in 977,000 viewers on average over the two hours, according to PWTorch (h/t Wrestling Inc).
They also got in 0.4 in the key 18-49 demography. This was above the AEW Dynamite ratings from last week which were 775,000 and had a demo rating of 0.32.
NXT didn’t have a great showing despite it being the go home show before New Year’s Evil. The Black and Gold brand racked up 586,000 viewers over the two hours and got a demo rating of 0.12
This was down by more than 100,000 as last week, NXT brought in 698,000 viewers and had a rating of 0.19 in the 18-49 demo.
