WWE and AEW Rumor Roundup for April 21, 2022, including WWE interest in FTR, Lo Shirai injury, Kushida and more!
These are all the latest rumor roundup in pro-wrestling, which are currently afloat. So let’s have a look at all the rumor roundup from WWE and AEW.
1. WWE interested in FTR
In 2020, Scott Dawson and Dash Wilder of FTR asked to be released from their WWE contracts. However, their request was not granted at that time.
Along the way, The Revival appeared on television, where sometimes they were pushed but on some occasions were humiliated. Dawson’s contract was believed to end somewhere around WrestleMania 36. But they eventually got released by WWE. They ended up signing contracts with AEW, but now, their AEW contracts are about to end.
According to Fightful Select, there has been a discussion within the WWE about bringing back FTR when their deals with AEW come up. However, AEW told them that those deals didn’t come up for some time.
2. Io Shirai injury
After winning this year’s Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic tournament, Io Shirai and Kay Lee Ray faced The Toxic Attraction at this year’s NXT Stand and Deliver for the NXT Women’s Tag Team titles.
However, she apparently got injured during the hard-hitting bout and has not seen some in-ring action since then. Now, several photos emerged showing Io Shirai wearing a walking boot and using crutches, which led to speculation that she was injured during her match at the NXT event.
3. Kushida leaving
Recently it was reported that Kushida is no longer with WWE. The reports indicated that his contract expired, and it is unknown if there were negotiations for a new one. Additionally, there are specific reports that “one person in the company” believed his release was due to budget cuts.
According to Wrestling Observer Radio, Kushida leaving was not a secret within WWE, and the beatdown from Von Wagner represented his write off.
Kushida came into the WWE scene hyped as a top junior heavyweight from New Japan Pro Wrestling. He spent some time as a Cruiserweight Champion and would be featured more until everything changed and NXT became NXT 2.0.
He lost his title and paired with Ikemen Jiro in a tag team known as Jacket Time.
It was also reported by Dave Meltzer that “”the main roster people were never interested in him being brought up.”
4. Kota Ibushi return
Kota Ibushi is a former IWGP World Heavyweight Champ and two-time G1 Climax winner. He is also referred to as The Golden Star. He has been sidelined since the finals of the 2021 G1 last fall, where he separated his shoulder while facing the current IWGP World Heavyweight title holder Kazuchika Okada.
It was later revealed that Ibushi needs more time to rehab his injury and won’t be a part of the tag team match on March 1 and in the 48 man field for the Cup. In addition, they also revealed that Hiroyoshi Tenzan is being pulled from the 50th Anniversary and New Japan Cup.
According to Wrestling Observer Radio, Kota Ibushi is about 70-80 per cent ready to return to wrestling, and the hope is that he’ll be back in time for the G1 Climax in July.
