He was also a part of the New Japan Pro-Wrestling at the same time.
In 2016, Styles joined the WWE and made his in-ring (re-debut) debut in the 2016 Royal Rumble. That very year, Styles became the WWE champion and went on to hold the title for more than a year, before losing it to Daniel Bryan.
In 2020, Styles won the Intercontinental Championship by defeating Bryan. He is currently the RAW Tag team champion alongside Omos.
