Alexander Wurz Career
Alexander Wurz had a decade-long career in Formula One, spanning from 1997 to 2007. He boasts two victories at the prestigious Le Mans 24 Hours race. Currently, he is actively involved with the Toyota factory racing team in the World Endurance Championship (WEC). In addition to his racing career, he serves as a commentator for television and media in the Formula One world. Alexander Wurz made his Formula One debut on June 15, 1997, at the Montreal Grand Prix, stepping in for the unwell Gerhard Berger on the Benetton team. Impressively, in only his third race, the 1997 British Grand Prix, Wurz secured a podium finish.
He continued to race full-time for Benetton in the 1998 season and remained with the team for three more years, with Giancarlo Fisichella as his teammate. In 1998, he even outscored Fisichella by one point, tying for 7th place in the driver’s championship with Heinz-Harald Frentzen.
In 2008, Wurz took on the role of Honda F1 test driver for the Formula One season, and he retained this position when the team transitioned into Brawn GP in 2009. For the 2012 Formula One season, he reconnected with the Williams F1 Team, but this time as a mentor for the team’s less-experienced drivers, Bruno Senna and Pastor Maldonado.
