Alison Riske-Amritraj Personal Life

She was born to her parents Al and Carol Riske and started playing tennis at three with her father. He worked in the Secret Service and later as an FBI investigator while her mother was a schoolteacher.

Alison has a sister named Sarah, and she is also a tennis player. Their brother Dan played tennis while studying in college and is currently an accountant.

Alison went to the Pennsylvania Cyber Charter School and played for Peters Township High School during fall 2006. She led the girls’ team to the Pennsylvania State championship and also won the singles competition.

After training with the likes of Janice Irwin and Yves Boulais, Alison began her training at the USTA training center in Boca Raton, Florida, as well as Van der Meer Tennis Academy in Hilton Head, South Carolina. She trained with Yves Boulais at the end of 2012.

Alison started playing on the ITF Circuit in May 2009. She finished the year ranked at No. 232. Riske began 2010 with a run to the semifinals of an ITF event in Rancho Mirage, California. She reached the semifinals of a WTA Tour event for the first time at the Birmingham Classic before losing to Maria Sharapova.

In the 2013 US Open, Riske defeated former Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova in the third round. She lost in the next round to Daniela Hantuchova.

In 2014, Alison won her first WTA title at the Tianjin Open in October. She defeated the likes of Cagla Buyukakcay, Olga Govortsova, Varvara Lepchenko, and Zheng Saisai en route to the final. In the all-important final, she defeated Belinda Bencic to bag the title.

Alison had to wait for almost five years to lift her second WTA Tour title. In 2019, she won the Rosmalen Open by defeating home favorite and World No. 4, Kiki Bertens in the final.

Alison won her third WTA title at the Linz Open in 2021 after defeating lucky loser Jaqueline Cristian.

This year, she has reached two WTA Tour finals. At the Adelaide Internation 2, she made the finals before losing to Madison Keys in straight sets in a match that lasted just an hour. Riske’s second WTA final appearance came at the Nottingham Open where she lost to Beatriz Haddad Maia in three sets.
