Are you facing difficulties in finding the Genshin Impact chess pieces locations? Our guide will help you out with all the locations.
When you’re playing the Dirge of Bilqis quest in Genshin Impact, you’ll come to a temple with an open area that asks you for Chess Pieces. These pieces stand for different spots in the desert. They’re not related to the Gnosis = Chess Pieces ideas, but they’ll help you get more treasure, which is way more important. In this guide, we will tell you all the Genshin Impact chess pieces locations.
What are Genshin Impact chess pieces?
Chess Pieces are special items you can find in the Desert of Hadramaveth. If you collect all 5 and put them on the Chess Board at the Temple’s Forsaken area, you’ll start a new quest chain. This leads to almost 100 Primogems and some achievements. To start collecting Chess Pieces and find the Chess Board, you need to start and complete the Dirge of Bilqis quest. This comes after the Golden Slumber quest in the Deshret Desert. If you’ve already finished Golden Slumber, go talk to Katheryne in Sumeru to start the new quest.
To get the Chess Pieces, complete the Dirge of Bilqis quest. This opens up important areas and gives you access to the Chess Pieces. The quest is long and involves a lot of exploration, but it’s worth it for the extra areas you’ll unlock and the Primogems.
To start the hunt for the Genshin Impact chess pieces locations, explore the Safhe Shantranj Temple during “The Temple Where Sand Flows Like Tears.” This will uncover a fancy Chess Board hidden beneath the sand. Then you can start collecting the pieces, but most of them will only become available as you continue the Dirge of Bilqis quest.

King Deshret’s Pillar
King Deshret’s Pillar is one of the first Chess Pieces you can find. After exploring the temple in “The Temple Where Sand Flows Like Tears,” you’ll head to a nearby ruin to search for the Mother of Jinni. The ruin is located near the Chess Board and leads to a beautiful area with a big evergreen tree.
When you interact with Jinni at the tree’s core, it will wilt and you’ll meet Liloupar. After some talking, you’ll be asked to go back to the Tanit Camp. But don’t leave just yet, because the first Chess Piece is close by.
The area where Liloupar was has changed now that the tree has wilted. There are puzzles, chests, monuments, and enemies to find. Go back to the spot where you originally met Liloupar and you’ll find an Exquisite Chest in the mummified tree. Open the chest to get King Deshret’s Pillar, the first of five Chess Pieces. If you don’t find the chest, continue with the Dirge of Bilqis and come back later.
Border Fort
The Border Fort piece is a Chess Piece that you can acquire during the Dune-Entomed Fecundity: Part I quest. The quest opens up a vast underground area beneath the Desert of Hadramaveth, and you’ll be guided by Liloupar and accompanied by Jeht. Your journey will take you to the depths of the desert sands, through the Passage of Ghouls map area and into a large cavern.
Liloupar will activate a device that will clear the path for you, leading you to the Chess Piece. On your way, you’ll encounter obstacles and enemies, which you’ll have to defeat or overcome by unlocking chests. You’ll also pass a Primal Obelisk that requires Sacred Seals to activate.
Further in, you’ll enter another room filled with Pyro Torches and a locked switch at the center. When you approach the switch, you’ll be attacked by a Consecrated Scorpion enemy. Defeating the Scorpion will free the switch and give you access to the next room, where you’ll find an Exquisite Chest. This chest contains your next Chess Piece – the Border Fort Piece.
Soulferry
The Soulferry is a Chess Piece modeled after a raft found in the Mausoleum of King Deshret. To obtain it, you need to complete the Dune-Entomed Fecundity: Part II quest, which is a continuation of the Dirge of Bilqis. Azariq will teach you how to control the massive Ruin Guard located to the north of the Desert of Hadramaveth, and using this knowledge, you’ll move it to a new location near the Sands of Three Canals.
The next Chess Piece is located in the new cavern that is unlocked by the Ruin Guard. Simply make your way through the cave until you reach the Teleport Waypoint. Here, you’ll find one of the ruined doors covered in strange purple vines. Once you open the door, you’ll find the next part of the quest and an Exquisite Chest. Open the chest to receive the Soulferry Chess Piece.
Khaj-Nisut
To obtain the Khaj-Nisut Chess Piece, you must continue your journey through the Dirge of Bilqis quest. In Dune-Entomed Fecundity: Part III, you will move the massive Ruin Guard (originally found in the Debris of Panjvahe) twice with the help of Jeht and Azariq. The first move will be just above the Sands of Three Canals and the second to the Wounded Shin Valley.
When the Ruin Guard finally arrives at the Wounded Shin Valley, it will collapse and create a new cave system for you to explore. To enter the cave, travel inside the Ruin Guard through the hole in its left arm, then exit from the destroyed arm on the other side. You will find the next Chess Piece inside a locked door after the underground Teleport Waypoint.
This door will open after progressing through the Dune-Entomed Fecundity: Part III quest, and you’ll find an Exquisite Chest waiting for you that contains the Khaj-Nisut Chess Piece. This is a very difficult Genshin Impact chess pieces locations you will find.
Temple of Gurabad
To obtain the Temple of Gurabad Chess Piece, you must first complete the Dirge of Bilqis Questline and then wait for a full server reset. After the reset, go to the Tanit Camp and start the Tadhla the Falcon side quest. This is the beginning of a three-part side quest where you will help an Eremite named Tadhla.
The Temple of Gurabad Chess Piece can be found during the second quest in this chain, The Falcon’s Hunt, by following the quest steps. You will hunt down several large creatures with Tadhla and defeat the final one, a Flying Serpent, to unlock a new piece of Liloupar and fall unconscious in a hidden cave.
Upon waking, you will have a brief conversation with Jinni, Paimon, and Tadhla. Before returning to the Tanit Camp, an Exquisite Chest will spawn where you wake up. The Chest will contain the final Chess Piece: the Temple of Gurabad.
