Analyzing Hull City’s top 3 recent loan deals – Where are they now?

Hull City have enjoyed a decent start to the ongoing Championship campaign. Currently placed 12th in the table, they do have a chance of fighting for a promotion spot.

Having suffered relegation from the Premier League in the 2016/17 season, the Tigers do seem capable of battling it out for a possible return to top-flight football. But for any club to achieve promotion via a playoff spot, it is important to have a strong squad that can weather through the toughest conditions.

Most Championship clubs look to Premier League outfits to sign promising young players on loan. It is a win-win situation as the youngsters get all the experience and game time they need while the second-tier outfit can reinforce certain positions without spending a whole lot of money. And Hull City have been no different.

Over the years, Grant McCann’s side has made some prolific loan signings but here is an analysis of Hull’s recent top 3 temporary gems.

Ola Aina

The talented defender arrived at Hull City on loan from Chelsea in the 2017/18 campaign. He played in that term’s opening game against Aston Villa which ended in a respectable 1-1 draw.

As a result, he went on to feature 45 times for the Tigers across all competitions, which is no mean feat.

In fact, he truly a key role in preventing Hull from getting relegated to the League One that season. On the whole, he helped the club maintain 12 clean sheets.

His talent earned him a £9m move to Torino earlier this year, marking a significant rise in his career.

Fikayo Tomori

Tomori may be best known in the Championship circuit for his time at Derby County but in the 2017/18 season, the Chelsea starlet joined Hull on loan.

He went on to feature 25 times for the Tigers in all competitions, thereby making a solid impression at the KCOM Stadium. His successes after the loan spell are well-documented and the youngster plays pretty often for Chelsea’s first-team.

As far as his international career is concerned, Tomori is skilled enough to earn his maiden senior cap for England quite soon.

Harry Wilson

Another Premier League starlet known better for his time at Derby County, Wilson joined Hull City on loan for the second half of the 2017/18 season.

Although that was a brief spell, the talented playmaker stood out and contributed with 7 goals and 4 assists in 13 Championship appearances.

He is yet to break into Liverpool’s celebrated first-team under Jurgen Klopp, Wilson is currently serving a loan spell with Bournemouth but the future indeed looks bright for him.
