Andrade el Idolo Career

Andrade is a third-generation professional wrestler. El Idolo made his wrestling debut on October 3, 2003, a month before his 14th birthday. Interestingly this could happen only because his father signed a waiver for the local boxing and wrestling commission to issue Andrade a license. He started his career in the ring name of Brillante Jr.

He signed with Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre (CMLL) on February 27, working as “Brillante” just like his father. Andrade won many Championship titles there like Mexican National Trios Championship, CMLL World Tag Team Championship.

In 2010, El Idolo was selected as the CMLL representative for New Japan Pro-Wrestling Best of Juniors. This was his first tour to Japan. He played for—these independent wrestling circuits for almost five years. 

Andrade signed a WWE contract on November 19, 2015; he was not very familiar with English, so he took training from Sarah Stoke, a WWE trainer who worked for CMLL for almost a decade.

He made his in-ring WWE debut at the NXT house show on January 8, 2016. Following his debut, he was given a new name of Andrade, “Cien” Almas.

Almas signed a contract against Drew McIntyre with his new manager WWE star Zelina Vega for the NXT Champion. At NXT TakeOver: War Games, he defeated McIntyre and became the new NXT Champion.

Almas made his main roster debut on May 15, 2018, against a local wrestler in SmackDown Live. He was drafted to Raw in 2019.

On December 26, 2019, in a packed house in Madison Square Garden, Andrade defeated Rey Mysterio to win the WWE United States Championship, and he successfully defended the titles for a while.

In March 2021, Andrade requested a release from WWE, which was granted. Almas left WWE to join the Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide, and on June 4, he made his debut in All Elite Wrestling under the ring name Andrade El Idolo, and he still plays for AEW.

Andrade was born on November 3, 1989 in Gomez Palacio, Durango. He is the son of Jose Andrade Salas, who wrestled as a Brilliant. El Idolo is a third-generation superstar of the family and competed in Lucha Libre.

His Grandmother wrestled under the name El Moro while his uncles wrestled under Diamante/Moro III, Kevin, Espanto Jr, and Espanto Magic. 

Andrade’s cousin also works for Lucha liter, but due to their secretive nature, EL Idolo’s cousin’s names are not revealed anywhere, but they are also a professional wrestler. 

EL Idolo was in a relationship with Charlotte Flair, the daughter of WWE Hall of Famer Ric Flair, from 2019, and the couple got engaged on January 1, 2020.
