Andreas Seppi Personal life

Andreas Seppi was born in Bozen, Italy to parents Hugo Seppi and Marialuise Seppi. Andreas has a younger sister named Maria. Andreas’ native tongue is German but he can also speak Italian and English. His father works in the transport business while his mother works in a sports shop.

He is fond of football and loves playing the sport in his leisure time. Seppi also loves skiing. His idol growing up was Yevgeny Kafelnikov and his favorite surfaces to play on are clay and hard courts.

He tied the knot with Michela Bernardi in 2016. They welcomed their first child, Liv Bernardi Seppi, on 20 February 2020 in Colorado, where they own a residence.

Andreas Seppi turned pro in 2001 and plied his trade on the ATP Futures and ATP Challenger Series circuit till 2004. He qualified for his first two ATP events at the 2003 Generali Open in Kitzbuhel and in Bucharest. He lost to Olivier Mutis and Jose Acasuso, respectively.

In 2004, Seppi made his Davis Cup debut against Georgia. The same year, he made his Grand Slam debut as a qualifier. He defeated Schuttler after dropping the first two sets.

Seppi reached his first ATP Tour semifinal in Palermo in 2005, where he defeated defending champion Tomas Berdych, before losing to Igor Andreev.

He made his first ATP Tour final in Gstaad in 2007 and came quite close to winning the title. However, he finished runner-up as Paul-Henri Mathiew bagged the title. Seppi’s first Challenger title came at Bergamo in 2008 where he defeated Julien Benneteau in the final.

Andy, as he is called by his close ones, had to wait for 10 years to capture his first ATP title. He won the title in Eastbourne in 2011 by defeating Janko Tipsarevic in the final after the Serbian retired at 5-3 down during the third set. He won his second ATP title in 2012 at Belgrade and his third ATP title in the same year at the Kremlin Cup.

A fourth-round appearance at the 2013 Australian Open facilitated his entry into the top 20 in singles for the first time in his career. He achieved a career-high singles ranking of world No. 18 on 28 January 2013.

Seppi has been a constant feature on the tour in the last few years. He has not added to his 3 ATP tour titles but has managed to reach the fourth rounds in all majors except the US Open. His last appearance in the fourth round of a major came at the 2018 Australian Open.
