Bynum was developing so well that head coach, Pete Newell asked Kobe Bryant to stop bullying the youngster. Instead of trading him to Indiana, Lakers exercised a fourth-year option on him and also handed him a four-year $58 million extension in 2008.

He scored a career-high of 42 points and collected 15 rebounds in a game against the Clippers in 2009. With his help, the Lakers won a Championship that year. A knee injury stopped him from participating in Lakers’ third consecutive championship victory.
