Rafael Nadal created his perfect tennis player and named some top stars such as Novak Djokovic, Andy Murray and Roger Federer for some attributes.
The Spaniard has had rivalries with all the players and continues to do so.
However, Nadal has a lot of respect for them too and was first asked which player had the best backhand.
“For backhand, I think I’ll go with Novak [Djokovic].”
Nadal was then asked what was so great about the Serbian’s backhand and replied:
“He’s able to defend very well, to attack very well down the line, close, so he has full options.”
The forehand was next and Nadal was quick to say that his long-time rival Federer had the best shot in tennis.
“He’s [Federer] able to take the ball very early, to create winners from everywhere. He’s able to hit flatter with spin. He has all the shots.”
The Spaniard then named Ivo Karlovic as the player with the best serve which was a surprising name, despite the Croatian being 40.
Nadal admitted that it was difficult to return Karlovic’s serve and claimed it was “impossible” to play the Croatian’s serve thanks to his height.
The 19-time Grand Slam winner did put himself in one of the positions, he named himself as the player with the most heart.
“I had the right determination throughout my tennis career after all a lot of injuries that I had.
“I was able to keep going and keep practising with passion for achieving my goals and to keep fighting every single match.”
Nadal also touched upon fitness and spoke about Austrian rising star Dominic Thiem. For speed, his ideal tennis player would have to be Frenchman Gael Monfils.
Scottish star Murray was the next player on Nadal’s mind as he was asked about the one with the best shot selection.
Murray has had his injury problems in the past, but it seems he has a lot of respect from Nadal:
“Maybe, Andy Murray.
“The talent is important. When you have good technique and when you have options that you can play defensive, play aggressive, slice, go to the net, return aggressive, return defensive, then it is easier to choose the right option.”
David Ferrer was the Spaniard’s choice for the player with the best attitude and Nadal claimed that former tennis star always was improving on the court.
Nadal ended the interesting interview by saying that Federer had the best vision in the game.
Creating a player with all these attributes would lead them to dominate the men’s circuit for sure.
