Manchester United vs West Ham Ratings: United Player Ratings + Reaction

Manchester United struggled their way to a heavily undeserved 2-1 victory against London club West Ham United. The Hammers were certainly the better team throughout the game and their numbers showcased this quite clearly at the end of the game.

With more shots and shots on target than the home side, West Ham should feel hard done by as they were beaten on the night by two unfortunate penalties – both of which were converted from the spot by French midfielder Paul Pogba. Despite the Hammers’ best efforts, United stole all 3 points from under Manuel Pellegrini’s nose.

Here are the Manchester United Player Ratings:

David de Gea 7

Made a couple of excellent saves to keep the score-line in their favour but did make the initial mistake that led to the equaliser.

Diogo Dalot 5

Over-aggressive off the ball and didn’t really showcase his excellent attacking abilities on the night.

Chris Smalling 5

Looked uncomfortable in the middle at times and played a multitude of rather questionable passes.

Phil Jones 6

Shed a lot of blood in the 2nd period but did well to neutralise the threat posed by Javier Hernandez.

Marcos Rojo 3

Looked completely off the pace of the game from the start and got caught out for the Hammers’ goal.

Fred 6

Did well in the middle of the park alongside Paul Pogba and provided the Frenchman some defensive cover

Paul Pogba 7

Occupied the deep-lying midfield role well on the night and scored twice from the spot to seal a crucial victory.

Juan Mata 5

Showed excellent industry and work-rate but wasn’t his usual creative and influential self.

Jesse Lingard 3

Was poor from the start, looked invisible through the tie and certainly didn’t deserve to finish the match on the pitch.

Anthony Martial 4

Burst into life in the 2nd half and won the crucial penalty that gave Pogba the chance to seal all three points.

Romelu Lukaku 3

The Belgian had a night to forget at Old Trafford as his touches and passing let him down yet again.

Substitutes

Marcus Rashford 6

Showed good energy after coming on and was a welcome substitute when he came on for Lukaku

Mason Greenwood 5

The youngster showed his potential in certain situations and did well with this rare opportunity he was given.
