7th seed Alex Molcan squares off against 2020 US Open champion Dominic Thiem in the round of 32 of the 2023 Argentina Open on Tuesday.

The current No. 1 Slovak player began the season by taking part in the Maharashtra Open. He lost to Laslo Djere in a one-sided contest in the round of 32. In the ASB Classic, Molcan lost to Quentin Halys in the round of 32.
The elusive first win of the season for Molcan finally came in the first round of the Australian Open. He lost two out of the first three sets against Stan Wawrinka but didn’t get bogged down. The 25-year-old came back strongly to win the match in five sets. In the second round, Molcan started strongly as he bagged the first couple of sets against Felix Auger-Aliassime. However, the 6th-seeded Canadian star bounced back to win the next three sets to knock Molcan out of the competition.
Dominic Thiem
The 29-year-old has had a tough start to the season. He lost to Soon-woo Kwon in the first round of qualifying in the Adelaide International 1.
Thiem went on to play in the Australian Open. He locked horns with 5th seed Andrey Rublev in the first round. The Russian star made light work of Thiem and won the match in straight sets 6-3, 6-4, 6-2. The Austrian veteran will look to get his season on the right track as he faces Molcan in the first round.
