Serbian qualifier Dusan Lajovic locks horns with Argentine qualifier Camilo Ugo Carabelli in the round of 16 of the 2023 Argentina Open on Wednesday.
The Serbian star came into the tournament with an exit in the round of 16 at the Cordoba Open. He made his debut in the tournament and won his first match in the round of 32 against Juan Pablo Varillas. In the round of 16, he gave good competition to 3rd seed Albert Ramos-Vinolas but eventually lost in three sets.
Lajovic won a couple of qualifying matches to reach the main draw of the Argentina Open. He eased past Renzo Olivo and Felipe Meligeni Alves to make it through to the main draw. Lajovic faced 6th seed Sebastian Baez in the first round. The Argentine star won the first set but Lajovic came back commendably to get the victory 3-6, 7-6 (7-5), 6-3.
The 23-year-old also competed in the Cordoba Open. However, his campaign ended in the second round of qualifying as he lost to Andrea Vavassori.
In the Argentina Open, Carabelli defeated Timofey Skatov in the first round of qualifying. The Argentine youngster went on to defeat compatriot Facundo Bagnis to make it to the main draw. In the round of 32, Carabelli got the better of Daniel Elahi Galan in straight sets 7-6 (9-7), 6-3. This was Carabelli’s first victory at the ATP level.
The head-to-head scoreline currently stands at 0-0 as the two players have never faced each other as yet.
