If recent reports are to be believed, Arsenal and Manchester United have been speculated to be in pursuit of Real Madrid midfielder Lucas Vazquez.

The 27-year-old Spaniard who is currently in Russia for the FIFA World Cup is said to be not on the priority list of new Real Madrid gaffer Julen Lopetegui. With the 2018/19 La Liga season just a month away from kickoff, future of Lucas Vazquez at the Spanish capital seems to be unclear.

Despite Vazquez’s contract with Real Madrid intact till 2021, a good offer from both the Premier League giants could be hard to refuse. Now, let us take a look at the reasons why he could be an asset to any team that he signs with.

A Real Madrid Product

A young Lucas Vazquez joined the Los Vikingos over a decade back when he was just 16. Since then he has been loyal to the club, having played for both the ‘C’ and ‘B’ team of Real Madrid before breaking into the first team. He started his senior career with Real Madrid ‘C’ in 2010/11 season, creating quite an impact by scoring two goals from 14 games.

Following his impressive display on the green lush, Vazquez was moved to Real Madrid Castilla the very next season. But it was not a smooth run there for Vazquez. During the first two seasons, he had to fight for a place in starting 11, managing to be a part of starting lineup only 12 times in that period.

He came off the bench on 40 occasions and managed to create an impact despite having got a playtime of just over 1500 minutes in those two years. The work he put on the football pitch earned him a permanent place in the starting 11 of the 2013/14 season. Vazquez did not let go of this opportunity and grabbed it with both hands. He found the back of the net on eight occasions, making a lot of head turn towards him.

Then manager Rafael Benitez provided Lucas Vazquez with a five-year contract and from there on it was no looking back for Vazquez. From winning La Liga title to clinching the UEFA Champions League for three consecutive years, Vazquez proved his worth in the team playing a crucial role in all their triumph in the last three years.

Breaking into the Spanish national team

It’s not often that one gets to see a player who hasn’t represented the country in the U-18 or U-20 getting into the senior team. But, Vazquez is an exception.

Despite not having got to represent Spain in the juniors, Vazquez’s determination and hard work paid off as a result of which he went on to be a part of the Spanish World Cup team that went to Russia.

Vazquez will definitely turn out to be a big asset for any team to have him on their squad. It will be interesting to see what plans Real Madrid have for Vazquez in the coming days.
