Why Arsenal need to find some way to recall Calum Chambers

At the moment, Arsenal are in a defensive crisis having lost both Sokratis and Laurent Koscielny during the FA Cup tie against Manchester United. It has left the club with no bonafide centre-backs apart from Shkodran Mustafi, with Rob Holding already ruled out for the remainder of the season.

However, the Gunners do have Calum Chambers loaned out to Fulham. The former Southampton man has impressed at Craven Cottage thus far. While Unai Emery does not really have a choice at the moment, the boss needs to find a way to bring back the 23-year old into the fold.

While Football.London has revealed that the Gunners don’t have a clause to bring back the young centre-back half-way through the loan spell, the North London side need to find a way.

The next two games are against Cardiff City and Manchester City, and Emery wouldn’t want his inexperienced defence to come up against the latter. Chambers, if anything offers a more resilient approach to the game and would be more than comfortable playing under Unai Emery’s tactics.

Calum Chambers

The 23-year-old signed a new deal before he left for Fulham. While the fact that Chambers should have never left in the first place is something else altogether, the Arsenal board need to find a way to brainstorm and bring the player back before the transfer window deadline.

Fans won’t be happy to hear to this, but they have to bear with it. Arsenal are currently three points behind in the top-four race and are out FA Cup and Carabao Cup. While winning the Europa League could be a tough task.

Both Eric Bailly (via ESPN) and Gary Cahill (via the Express) have been linked with moves over the last few days but nothing has materialized yet. With the deadline coming up in two days, Arsenal need to make sure that they either get one of the two abovementioned players or at least conjure something to find a way to recall Calum Chambers from Fulham midway through his loan move.
