Arsenal Opinion: Why Franck Kessie would be a smart signing for Arsenal
According to a report from the Express, AC Milan could be forced into offloading midfield general Franck Kessie to comply with Financial Fair Play (FFP). They will listen to offers of around £30million for the Ivorian, alerting the likes of Arsenal, Tottenham and West Ham.
Franck Kessie, 22, has been one of AC Milan’s most consistent performers during his two seasons at the San Siro. He made 34 appearances in Serie A last season and scored seven goals as Milan finished fifth but missed out on Champions League football.
The Ivorian joined AC Milan on a two-year loan deal from Atalanta in 2017. But the Milan-based outfit have an obligation to buy him around £24m this summer. And it now looks like the Serie A giants may sign Kessie but immediately sell him on to balance the books, adds the report.
That being said, Arsenal must attempt to beat their London rivals to acquire the services of Franck Kessie.
The Gunners finished in fifth place in the Premier League table last term to miss out on a spot in the Champions League for the third successive season. Unai Emery will have a limited budget to work as his team missed out on fourth place by a single point before succumbing to Chelsea in the Europa League final.
It means Emery will have to recruit very smartly and try addressing as many problems as possible on a limited transfer budget. With Aaron Ramsay having already left the club and Mesut Ozil underperforming this past season, the Spanish manager would do well with the signing of Kessie.
Kessie is a combative midfielder, who is blessed with technical abilities, strength, power and pace. The Ivory Coast international works extremely hard in midfield and that combined with his creativity and goal threat will help the Gunners. He is very strong on the ball, making him very difficult to dispossess, and has an eye for the final pass. The 22-year-old can occasionally hold on to it for too long instead of looking for an early pass.

The Ivorian’s work-ethic is fantastic and that’s something Arsenal boss Unai Emery demands from his stars and it’s exactly what Kessie will give him. He never shies away from making a tackle or two to break the opposition’s play and would add a much-needed physicality to the Gunners midfield. All in all, the ex-Atalanta ace has all the qualities required to thrive in the rough and physical Premier League.
Verdict
Kessie is undoubtedly talented and the 22-year-old still has so much more than that to offer. His ability, both on and off the ball, is incredible and his presence would do brilliantly at the Emirates.
