Arsenal Opinion: Why Ismaila Sarr will be a superb fit at the Emirates?

According to a report from the Metro, Arsenal are interested in Rennes forward Ismaila Sarr ahead of the summer transfer window.

In fact, the Gunners opened transfer talks with Rennes last month after their 3-1 defeat in the first leg of Europa League round of 16 clash. Even though Arsenal won the second leg and progressed into the quarter-finals, the Senegalese impressed at the Emirates.

Ismaila Sarr, 21, is regarded as one of the hottest prospects in Ligue 1. The youngster has scored 10 goals and supplied 12 assists across all competitions this season, becoming a regular fixture at Roazhon Park.

His exploits have been noticed by one of the top clubs in England, with Arsenal, who are interested in securing his services this summer after holding talks with Rennes over a possible transfer.

Interest in the Senegalese speedster doesn’t come as a surprise as Unai Emery’s side lacks a natural winger in an otherwise well-oiled attack.

Emery, however, is likely to be granted with a modest transfer budget in the summer of around £50million, although that could be further boosted should Arsenal qualify for the Champions League or the club manages to sell some their biggest earners.

A place in the top four would be fantastic for Emery in his debut season at the Emirates Stadium. Champions League football next campaign will be very important for the Gunners in the viewpoint of their budget and ability to attract star names. It’ll certainly help the north London giants tempt a talent like Sarr to make the switch from Rennes to the Premier League.

Sarr is a right winger by trade but he is adept at playing on the left and through the middle as well. Blessed with explosive pace, dribbling skills and athleticism, the 21-year-old operates with a certain level of directness and loves to take on the full-backs and beat them. He has showcased tenacity and aggression in his game that has won him many plaudits all season.

The Senegal international has an incredible eye for goal and is an intelligent finisher. But Sarr’s biggest assets are his pace and dribbling skills. He combines them with his movement to get away from defenders and his invention and skill on the ball make him a difficult customer to stop when through on goal.

Verdict

Emery saw how good Sarr was in the first-leg of Europa League round of 16 and that should prompt him to splash the cash to sign him this summer. All in all, the Senegalese speed demon would be an extraordinary addition to Arsenal’s squad.
