According to a report from Football.London, Arsenal are interested in Genk’s Leandro Trossard as an alternative to Bournemouth star Ryan Fraser.
Unai Emery appears to be targeting a winger ahead of the summer transfer window and is particularly interested in Ryan Fraser, who has enjoyed a terrific campaign with Bournemouth. The Scotsman has a contract at the Vitality until the summer of 2020 and any talks of a new deal is likely to take place at the end of this season.
But the Gunners will have a paltry £40million as their summer transfer budget, should they fail to qualify for the Champions League next season, adds the report. And in that budget, signing a player of Fraser’s quality and experience will be a bit tricky as Bournemouth are certain to demand a lot of money to let go of one of their prized assets.
Hence, keeping an alternative to Fraser makes sense and Emery would do a good job by signing Leandro Trossard in the summer if he fails to poach the Bournemouth star.
Trossard, 24, has scored 19 goals and supplied eight assists in all competitions for Genk this season. His best form has come in the Europa League and Europa League qualifying this season, with eight goals and three assists in 11 games. The Belgian is enjoying the best season of his career and it’s no surprise he has caught the attention of Arsenal.
A left winger by trade, Trossard is versatile enough to play on the right and as a secondary striker. He is all-action, speedy, creative and operates with a certain kind of directness. The 24-year-old is strong enough to keep hold of the ball but at the same time he has the slyness to switch direction in an instant and leave his opponent for dead.
The Belgian is a fantastic dribbler, capable of bamboozling defenders due to his speed and trickery. His movement down the flanks is enviable while he is also a composed finisher in front of goal. Trossard uses his low centre of gravity to great effect and that coupled with his vision and clinical finishing make him such an exciting player to watch.

Above all, Trossard is just 24 and certainly has his best years ahead of him. He has a good goalscoring record in Belgium and should come relatively cheaper than Fraser. Truly, the 24-year-old has all the makings of a superstar.
It’s tough to tell one whether Trossard is ready to make the step up to the Premier League after lighting up the Belgium Pro League. But if Arsenal are interested in him and have identified his potential, then this is exactly the type of deal that needs to go over the line in the summer.
