Second seed Cameron Norrie locks horns against French veteran Richard Gasquet in the finals of the 2023 ASB Classic on Saturday.

Cameron Norrie

Cameron Norrie

The British No. 1 has been in impeccable form this season. He began the new season on a great note with wins against Rafael Nadal and Taylor Fritz in the United Cup.

Norrie’s good form continued in the ASB Classic as he picked up a hard-fought win against the talented Jiri Lehecka in three sets. The 27-year-old went on to defeat Marcos Giron in three sets. Norrie’s most comfortable win came against America’s Jenson Brooksby. The former managed to dominate the encounter and eventually won 6-3, 6-4.

Richard Gasquet

The 36-year-old has had a fine campaign so far in Auckland. After being ousted in the round of 32 of the Adelaide International 1, Gasquet has managed to reach his 33rd ATP Final. This is also his first final since July 2021.

The veteran began with a comprehensive 6-3, 6-1 win against Kiranpal Pannu. In the round of 16, Gasquet got the better of Joao Sousa 7-6 (7-2), 6-2. In the quarterfinals, Gasquet came back from a set down to edge past David Goffin 1-6, 6-1, 6-1. Gasquet was set to face compatriot Constant Lestienne in the semis. The latter, however, pulled out prior to the match.

Head-to-Head and Prediction

Interestingly enough, the two experienced campaigners Richard Gasquet and Cameron Norrie have never faced each other so far. Therefore, the current head-to-head scoreline stands at 0-0 as we wait to find out who strikes first.

Prediction: Cameron Norrie to win in straight sets.
