Spanish star Jaume Munar faces Serbia’s Laslo Djere in the round of 32 of the ASB Classic on Tuesday.
The 25-year-old will look to bounce back in this tournament after his Tata Maharashtra Open campaign came to an end rather quickly. Munar played in both the singles and doubles events at the tournament in India.
He was the 7th seed at the tournament and was expected to have a deep run. However, he was ousted in the round of 32 by eventual champion Tallon Griekspoor in straight sets 6-4, 7-5. In the doubles event, Munar partnered with compatriot Pedro Martinez. The Spanish duo lost in the quarterfinals in straight sets against Sander Gille and Joran Vliegen.
The 27-year-old will be playing his second tournament of the new season. He also took part in the Tata Maharashtra Open.
Djere got off to a fine start in the tournament as he made light work of fifth seed Alex Molcan. The big-serving Serbian finished the match in straight sets 6-2, 6-4. Djere locked horns with Germany’s Maximilian Marterer in the round of 16. Both players fought hard in the first set but couldn’t win the tiebreak. Djere was outplayed in the second set by Marterer and the match ended 7-6 (7-5), 6-2 in favor of the German star.
The two players have faced each other on a couple of occasions on the Challenger circuit. Munar has triumphed on both occasions and therefore has a 2-0 lead in the head-to-head scoreline.
Prediction: Jaume Munar to win in three sets.
