The impressive Jenson Brooksby takes on Frenchman Quentin Halys in the quarterfinals of the 2023 ASB Classic on Thursday.
It has been an eventful start to the season for the 22-year-old Brooksby. He faced Fabio Fognini in the round of 32. The Italian veteran won a tight first set but Brooksby bounced back commendably and picked up a win 6-7 (2-7), 6-1, 6-3 win. However, Brooksby did not apologize after winning a crucial point via net cord and this didn’t sit well with Fognini. The experienced campaigner gave Brooksby a telling-off during and after the match and fans also gave their opinions on the incident.
Brooksby managed to move and produced a spectacular performance in the first set against 3rd seed Diego Schwartzman in the round of 16. Brooksby blew away the Argentine 6-1. Schwartzman retired in the second set owing to injury as Brooksby advanced.
The 26-year-old played in the Adelaide International 1 before arriving in Auckland. Halys defeated Jordan Thompson comprehensively in the first round before losing to eventual champion Novak Djokovic in the second round.
In Auckland, Halys has been in dominating form. He started with a comfortable 6-3, 6-4 win against Alex Molcan. Halys continued the good work in the round of 16 as he got the better of the young and talented Ben Shelton in straight sets 6-3, 6-2. The big-serving Dutchman has hit a whopping 30 aces in the two matches so far.
Jenson Brooksby and Quentin Halys have never faced each other as yet. Therefore, the head-to-head scoreline currently stands at 0-0.
Prediction: Jenson Brooksby to win in straight sets.
