The Men’s Doubles final of the 2023 ASB Classic is all set as Nikola Mektic and Mate Pavic will face the team of Nathaniel Lammons and Jackson Withrow on Saturday.
Nikola Mektic and Mate Pavic
The Croatian duo is a lethal team. They won five titles in 2022, and also finished runner-up at Wimbledon and the ATP Finals.
Mektic and Pavic began their campaign with a hard-fought win against the team of Ajeet Rai and Finn Reynolds 7-5, 6-7 (5-7), 10-5. In the quarterfinals, Mektic and Pavic got the better of the Argentine duo of Maximo Gonzalez and Andres Molteni in three sets 7-6 (7-3), 3-6, 10-5. Mektic and Pavic played their best match of the tournament against Alexander Erler and Lucas Miedler in the semis and defeated the Austrian duo in straight sets 7-6 (7-5), 6-3. The top-seeded team of Mektic and Pavic will be confident going into yet another final.
Nathaniel Lammons and Jackson Withrow
The American duo has been quite impressive in the tournament thus far. However, they will know that the challenge against the experienced team of Mektic and Pavic will be a formidable one.
The unseeded team has dropped just one set in the three matches they have played so far in the tournament. In the first match, Withrow and Lammons defeated the team of Michael Venus and Jamie Murray 6-7 (2-7), 6-4, 12-10. In the second match, they got the better of Jeremy Chardy and Fabrice Martin in straight sets 6-2, 7-6 (7-4).
