The world No. 6 Stefanos Tsitsipas takes on world No. 9 Andrey Rublev in the semi-finals of the Astana Open on Saturday.
Stefanos Tsitsipas
The Greek tennis pro has been at his dominant best at the tournament so far. He has won all his matches so far in straight sets and has been quite good with his serves as well.
The 24-year-old began his campaign in the Astana Open with a comprehensive win against Mikhail Kukushkin 6-3, 6-4. In the round of 16, Tsitsipas had to dig deep against Luca Nardi to finish the game in a couple of sets. Both sets were highly competitive and made for fantastic viewing. In the quarter-finals, Tsitsipas faced an in-form Hubert Hurkacz. The Polish youngster gave a good account of himself in the first set before Tsitsipas outplayed him in the second set.
Andrey Rublev
The 24-year-old showed good form at the US Open last month and has continued in the same vein in Astana as well with three wins in straight sets.
In the round of 32, Rublev produced a solid display to defeat Laslo Djere 6-4, 6-3. Zhizhen Zhang took on Rublev in the round of 16. The latter made light work of the Chinese tennis pro and sealed a place in the quarter-finals. Rublev dominated his quarter-final encounter against the experienced Adrian Mannarino and won the match 6-1, 6-2.
Head-to-Head and Prediction
The head-to-head scoreline intriguingly stands at 5-4 in favor of Tsitsipas. Their last encounter was won by Tsitsipas in three sets at the 2022 Madrid Open.
Prediction: Stefanos Tsitsipas to win in three sets.
