According to Spanish outlet El Desmarque (h/t Birmingham Mail), Aston Villa are keen on securing the services of Levante midfielder Jose Gomez Campana.
The 27-year-old has enjoyed an excellent season with the La Liga side that saw them finish 12th in the league this season. Campana, who featured in all but one match for Levante, is his side’s top assist-provider in the league with seven to his name.
He also scored three goals in the process, giving a clear idea of his attacking talents. Having played a key role in helping them earn La Liga promotion in his maiden season with Levante three years ago, Campana has grown into one of the best players over the years.
His contribution to the side sees him being valued at around £27million. To date, he has featured 128 times in the La Liga, indicating that he is not short of experience.
Villa have had a difficult first season back in the Premier League as they managed to survive in the top-flight by finishing just one spot above the relegation zone.
The Villans currently have four midfielders in their ranks, with 29-year-old Conor Hourihane being the highest assist-provider in that group.
He is currently the side’s second top assist-provider with five assists, behind skipper Jack Grealish, who has six to his name. However, five assists is clearly not a big number and they need creativity if they wish to stay in the top-flight next season.
That said, Campana could be a valuable addition to their side, having proved himself consistently in the last few years for Levante. Hence, Villa must up their interest in the Spanish midfielder and bring him to England as soon as possible.
Aston Villa’s lack of creativity has been one of the major reasons for the side’s poor displays this season and Campana would be a good addition to help them solve this issue. The Spaniard has been a key player for Levante in recent times with his consistent displays in the middle.
