Aston Villa Opinion: Why Harry Arter could be a good signing for Aston Villa?
According to a report from The Irish Independent, Aston Villa, Fulham and Stoke City are interested in signing Harry Arter from Bournemouth in the summer transfer window.
The 29-year-old midfielder spent the 2018/19 season on loan at Cardiff City. He made 25 appearances in the Premier League, providing one assist in the process. However, Artur wasn’t successful in helping the Bluebirds avoid relegation from the top-flight.
The report suggests while a permanent move to join brother-in-law Scott Parker at Championship side Fulham would be “attractive” for the 29-year-old, he is also interested in exploring the possibility of staying in the Premier League with a switch to Aston Villa.
The Villans are back in the Premier League for next year and it is certainly going to be exciting to see which players are going to stay and which will leave this summer. Dean Smith has done good business since his arrival at Villa Park and the fans will need to trust him in the transfer market ahead of a massive season.
Despite an impressive end to the season there is no doubt that Villa will need to strengthen if they are to do well in the Premier League. One area that the Villa manager should first focus on addressing is the midfield, with Mile Jedinak and Glenn Whelan’s contract due to expire this summer.
Conor Hourihane, John McGinn and Jack Grealish impressed in midfield in the Championship and are expected to be first-team players next term. Birkir Bjarnason and Henri Lansbury managed 20 appearances together, which means they could have similar roles as squad players. But the Villans need a midfielder with top-flight experience as well as the energy to replace Whelan and Jedinak.
That player could well be Harry Arter, who would offer something different to Villa’s other midfield options. The 29-year-old hasn’t played much in the last couple of seasons in the Premier League but he has rich experience to offer. He is a diligent, tenacious and aggressive midfielder, with an eye for a killer pass.

Arter is a tidy passer of the ball and works really hard in the engine room to help his team tick over. He is never afraid to fly into challenges and pick up a booking for his team’s cause. The 29-year-old brings great gusto and drive in midfield, which Villa certainly will need a bit more next term.
Verdict
At 29, Arter still has plenty to offer at the highest level. There is no question that Villa need more depth in midfield and by signing the Republic of Ireland international, Smith will do a world of good.
