Marcos Giron will take on Czech Republic’s Tomas Machac in the Round of 16 at the ATP Houston 250 event
Marcos Giron has come into this tournament after a disappointing outing at the Miami Open. The American suffered a first-round exit from the Miami Open last week but has made an impressive start to this event. In his first-round match, Giron convincingly defeated Ecuador’s Emilio Gomez in straight sets 6-0, 6-2.
Giron has been pretty underwhelming so far this season. His best performance on the ATP tour this year came at the Dallas Open, where he reached the quarter-finals before losing to top seed Taylor Fritz. Giron is seeded seventh in Houston and will be looking to put up a good show and carry some positive momentum for the rest of the season.
Czech ace Tomas Machac has made it to the main draw of the tournament after playing two rounds of qualifiers. The 22-year-old beat Genaro Olivieri and Brandon Halt in the two qualifying rounds at Houston. In his first-round match of the main draw, Machac defeated local favourite Jack Sock 6-2, 6-4, to set up a second-round clash against No.7 seed Tommy Paul.

Head to head and Predictions
Giron and Machac have never played each other once before on the ATP tour. This is the first professional head-to-head clash between the two players. Giron is the outright favourite going into this match both in terms of form and rankings. It will be an uphill task for Machac in this encounter against the seventh seed, but he is expected to pose a tough challenge. However, we expect the American to see off Machac’s challenge easily and we are predicting a win in straight sets for Marcos Giron.
