World No. 14 Jannik Sinner squares off against Dutch No. 2 Tallon Griekspoor in the semifinals of the 2023 ATP Rotterdam Open on Saturday.
The Italian youngster has reached his second consecutive semifinal on the back of some stunning performances. He began with a win against Benjamin Bonzi in the round of 32. Sinner lost the second set but dominated the first and third sets to win the match 6-2, 3-6, 6-1. He went on to outplay top seed Stefanos Tsitsipas in the round of 16. The match ended in straight sets 6-4, 6-3. Sinner was exceptional with his serves. He had a win percentage of 89 on the first serve and also converted 3 out of 4 break points without facing one himself.
In the quarterfinals, Sinner managed to ease past 3-time Grand Slam champion Stan Wawrinka with a comprehensive performance. The one-sided affair ended in straight sets 6-1, 6-3 in favor of Sinner as he converted 5 out of 8 break points.
The 26-year-old has been in good form this season. In the opening round, Griekspoor toiled hard and was rewarded for his relentless as he defeated Mikael Ymer 7-6 (9-7), 7-5. Griekspoor followed it up with a marvelous come-from-behind win against former world No. 2 Alexander Zverev. The match ended 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 in favor of Griekspoor.
He went on to face Gijs Brouwer in the quarterfinals. Griekspoor converted two out of two break points and won the match 6-4, 6-4 to sail into the semifinals.
The head-to-head scoreline currently stands at 0-0 as the two players have never crossed paths as yet.
Prediction: Jannik Sinner to win in three sets.
