ATX Open 2023: Anastasia Potapova vs Katie Volynets – Preview, Head-to-Head, and Prediction

3rd seed Anastasia Potapova takes on American youngster Katie Volynets in the round of 16 of the 2023 ATX Open on Wednesday.

The Russian youngster did not have a great start to the season but has found form lately. She managed to reach the quarterfinals of the Lyon Open. Potapova went on to play in the Linz Open where she won her 2nd career ATP singles title. Potapova defeated the likes of Lucia Bronzetti, Jule Niemeier, Anna-Lena Friedsam, Marketa Vondrousova, and Petra Martic en route to the title.

In the round of 32, Potapova made light work of Elizabeth Mandlik. The former won the match in straight sets 6-2, 6-0. Potapova converted 6 out of 7 break points while Mandlik committed 8 double faults in the one-sided encounter.

Katie Volynets

The 21-year-old was ousted in the first round of the ASB Classic. She went on to play in the Australian Open where she reached the third round for the first time at a Grand Slam. Before beginning her ATX Open campaign, Volynets played in the Merida Open where she was ousted in the second round by compatriot Caty McNally.

In the first round of the ATX Open, Volynets faced fellow American Alison Riske-Amritraj. The match ended 6-3, 3-6, 6-0 in favor of the youngster. Volynets converted 6 out of 10 break points in the encounter.
