8th seed Marta Kostyuk squares off against Hungary’s Dalma Galfi in the round of 32 of the 2023 ATX Open on Tuesday.
The Ukrainian youngster had a promising start to the season. She made it to the quarterfinals of the Adelaide International 1. Kostyuk made it to the third round of the Australian Open for the third time in her career. She followed it up with a run to the quarterfinals of the Thailand Open.
Before coming to play in the ATX Open, Kostyuk competed in a couple of tournaments in the Middle East. She lost to Belinda Bencic in the second round of the Abu Dhabi Open. The Dubai Tennis Championships followed where Kostyuk lost to Bencic once again in the second round. Kostyuk is one of the most talented young players on the WTA circuit. She will hope to have a deep run in the tournament.
The 24-year-old comes into the tournament on the back of a decent run to the quarterfinals of the Linz Open, earlier this month.
Galfi progressed from the qualifiers and made it to the quarterfinals. She defeated Bernarda Pera and Eva Lys in the first two rounds. Other than this campaign, Galfi hasn’t had a result of note this season. She suffered first-round exits in the ASB Classic, Australian Open, and Lyon Open.
Marta Kostyuk and Dalma Galfi will be facing each other for the first time. Therefore, the head-to-head scoreline currently stands at 0-0 as we wait to see who breaks the deadlock.
