ATX Open 2023: Sloane Stephens vs Taylor Townsend – Preview, Head-to-Head, and Prediction

5th seed Sloane Stephens will square off against fellow American player, Taylor Townsend in the round of 32 of the ATX Open on Tuesday.

The former world No. 3 began the season with three consecutive losses. She lost to Rebeka Masarova in the ASB Classic, Lauren Davis in the Hobart International, and Anastasia Potapova in the Australian Open.

Stephens registered her first win of the season in the Merida Open last week. She defeated Leolia Jeanjean in the first round and Varvara Gracheva in the second round. In the quarterfinals, Stephens was ousted by Camila Giorgi in a one-sided contest. The Italian star won the match 6-0, 6-0. The 2017 US Open champion would like to build on this decent recent.

Taylor Townsend

The 26-year-old began with a loss against Anastasia Potapova in the first round of qualifying for the Adelaide International 1. In the Adelaide International 2, Townsend lost to Amanda Anisimova in the first round of qualifying.

Townsend went on to compete in the Australian Open. In the first round, she defeated Diane Parry in straight sets. This was her first win at a Grand Slam since 2020. Her campaign came to an end in the second round with a loss to Ekaterina Alexandrova after winning the first set.
