AEW referee Aubrey Edwards is certainly one of the most loved referee’s across all major wrestling promotions. What sets her apart is that she is a true multi-talented individual and her work is not limited to just refereeing the matches. Every wrestling promotion has the one referee who is there for all the mega events, Edwards is that referee for AEW.

Edwards has developed a great skill set and is a great match facilitator. Furthermore, she has garnered immense popularity amongst the AEW faithful. While comparing her to other referees, she is very young and has a rather short officiating career. However, that does not equate to the skill she possesses.

Aubrey Edwards’ officiating career

Edwards started officiating roughly four years ago in the indie circuit. What’s even more interesting about her is the fact that she has wrestled herself. In August 2019, the AEW referee wrestled in a match on 3-2-1 BATTLE! a Seattle based wrestling promotion. The 34 year-old was born and raised in Seattle, Washington as well. However, she was still focused on doing her best to grow as a referee.

In her early days Edwards would train hard and attend major wrestling events across the country to learn from the best referees in the business. She used to take up bits and pieces from other referees and improvise them accordingly to build a perfect character for herself. In her short refereeing career Edwards has managed to master the art of great referees. She knows when to become invisible in a match and when to impose her character with authority in the ring.

Edwards received a call up from the AEW in 2019 after she was recommended to the company. In August of the same year she became the first female referee to a professional wrestling world championship match up on a PPV. Later, she was signed as the company’s first ever full time female wrestler.

Is Aubrey Edwards’ role at AEW limited to refereeing?

Edwards’ role at AEW is by no means limited to just officiating the matches. Instead she offers much more than that. The 34 year-old is also the project manager/coordinator at AEW. Apart from this open about her love for video games and has a previous experience of working in the video game industry. Which is why she is also an integral part of the AEW’s video game development team.

Being a full time referee along with being the project manager of the promotion, on top of that being a part of AEW’s gaming department, Edwards’ has her hands spread wide within the company. This is what makes her truly special and different from other referees in the business.
