Austin James Rivers a.k.a Austin Rivers was Round 1, 10th overall draft pick by the New Orleans Hornets (now New Orleans Pelicans) in 2011. Rivers plays in the position of Point guard / Shooting guard and is the 2011 Naismith Prep Player of the Year.
Rivers played college basketball for Duke University from 2011 to 2012. Notably, in the 2011-12 college basketball season, Rivers averaged 15.5 points per game, 3.4 rebounds per game, and 2.1 assists per game.
In the 2012 NBA Draft, Rivers was the 10th overall draft pick by the New Orleans Hornets (now New Orleans Pelicans). In his NBA rookie year, that is the 2012-13 season, Rivers played 61 games, averaging 6.2 points per game, 1.8 rebounds per game, and 2.1 assists per game.
On January 12, 2015, Rivers was traded to the Boston Celtics. However, three days later, Rivers was traded to the Los Angeles Clippers. In Clippers, Rivers joined his father, Doc Rivers, who was then the head coach of the LA Clippers.
On July 8, 2016, Rivers again re-signed with the Clippers. In the 2016-17 regular season, Rivers averaged career-highs of 12.0 points, 2.2 rebounds, and 2.8 assists per game.
However, on June 26, 2018, Rivers was traded to the Washington Wizards. Then on December 17, 2018, Rivers was traded to the Phoenix Suns. Nevertheless, he was waived by the Suns on the following day.
Next, on December 24, 2018, Rivers signed with the Houston Rockets. He played for the Rockets till the 2019-20 season. Then on November 27, 2020, Rivers was acquired by the New York Knicks via a sign-and-trade deal. However, on March 25, 2021, Rivers was traded to the Oklahoma City Thunder but he was waived three days later.
On April 20, 2021, the Denver Nuggets signed Rivers to a 10-day contract. After ten days, he was signed for the rest of the season.
On September 1, 2021, Rivers re-signed with the Denver Nuggets in a 1-year deal.
The next season, he joined the Minnesota Timberwolves on a one-year deal.
