30th seed Alejandro Davidovich Fokina faces America’s Tommy Paul in the second round of the 2023 Australian Open on Thursday.

The Spaniard came into the tournament after playing in the Adelaide International 2. In Adelaide, Davidovich Fokina reached the quarterfinals. He lost to eventual runner-up Roberto Bautista Agut in straight sets.

In the Australian Open, the 23-year-old had a tough opponent in the first round. Kazakhstani No. 1 Alexander Bublik gave the Spanish youngster a really tough time after being bageled in the first set. Bublik won the second and third sets to take a 2-1 lead but Davidovich Fokina came back strongly to win the match 6-0, 6-7 (3-7), 3-6, 6-4, 6-3.

The American tennis pro also played in the Adelaide International 2 and made it to the round of 16 by defeating Christopher O’Connell. Paul was eventually ousted by Jack Draper.

In the first round of the Australian Open, the 25-year-old faced Germany’s Jan-Lennard Struff. The match was a rather one-sided affair as Paul won in straight sets 6-1, 7-6 (8-6), 6-2. Paul fired 20 aces in the match to rattle his opponent. Overall, his win percentage on the first serve was 83.
