11th seed Cameron Norrie takes on the promising Luca Van Assche in the first round of the 2023 Australian Open on Monday.
Cameron Norrie
The British No. 1 has had a great start to the new season. He has played a couple of tournaments in 2023 and has shown his class in both.
He began 2023 by participating in the first-ever United Cup. The southpaw managed to beat the mighty Rafael Nadal in his first match. Norrie picked up another huge win against Taylor Fritz in the United Cup. The 27-year-old went on to play in the ASB Classic in Auckland. Second-seeded Norrie was one of the favorites to win the competition. He defeated Jiri Lehecka, Marcos Giron, and Jenson Brooksby en route to the finals. Norrie eventually lost to French veteran Richard Gasquet in the final.
Luca Van Assche
The talented Frenchman is one of the players you would like to keep an eye on. Luca Van Assche might have a tough challenge in front of him but those who have followed him closely would know that he likes challenging situations.
Van Assche managed to win four Challenger titles in the latter half of 2022. The 2021 Roland Garros boys’ singles champion earned a wild card to play in the Australian Open. In the ASB Classic, Van Assche lost to Federico Coria in the qualifiers in three sets after bagging the first set.
Head-to-Head and Prediction
The head-to-head scoreline currently stands at 0-0 as the two players have never crossed paths as yet.
Prediction: Cameron Norrie to win in straight sets.
