7th seed Coco Gauff locks horns with 17th seed Jelena Ostapenko in the fourth round of the 2023 Australian Open on Sunday.
The ever-impressive Coco Gauff has not lost a set so far in 2023. She has reached the fourth round of the Australian Open for the second time in her career.
The American teenager won her first match in the 2023 Australian Open against Katerina Siniakova in straight sets 6-1, 6-4. In the second round, Gauff defeated Emma Raducanu 6-3, 7-6 (7-4). In the third round, Gauff edged past compatriot Bernarda Pera 6-3, 6-2. The 18-year-old has been decisive and dominated in all the matches she has played. She had to fight hard only in the second set against Raducanu but other than that it has been comfortable for the youngster.
The Latvian tennis pro came into the Australian Open with a 1-2 record in the season. She has played decently to find herself in the fourth round of the Australian Open for the first time in her career.
Ostapenko beat Dayana Yastremska convincingly in the first round. The match ended 6-4, 6-2. In the second round, Ostapenko defeated Anna Bondair 7-6 (7-5), 5-7, 6-0 in an eventful affair. The 25-year-old completely outplayed Kateryna Baindl in straight sets 6-3, 6-0 in the third round. Ostapenko is the underdog going into the clash against an in-form Gauff. She would look to use all her experience to good effect to get the better of the world No. 7.
Coco Gauff leads the head-to-head scoreline 1-0. She defeated Ostapenko in their only previous meeting at the 2019 Linz Open in three sets.
Prediction: Coco Gauff to win in straight sets.
