The talented Holger Rune finished last season with some scintillating performances. He even defeated the mighty Novak Djokovic in the finals of the Paris Masters to win his third ATP singles title.
The 19-year-old did not have a great start to the new season as he lost in the first round of the Adelaide International 1. However, he came back to winning ways in the Australian Open first round against Filip Krajinovic. The match ended in straight sets 6-2, 6-3, 6-4 in favor of the Danish youngster. In the second round, Rune produced another polished effort against Maxime Cressy and won the match in straight sets 7-5, 6-4, 6-4.
Ugo Humbert
The 24-year-old failed to make it to the main draw of the Adelaide International 1 as he lost to Christopher Eubanks in the qualifiers. In the ASB Classic, Humbert lost in the first round to Christopher Eubanks.
Coming into the Australian Open on the back of four consecutive losses, Humbert won against compatriot Richard Gasquet in straight sets. In the second round, Humbert produced a solid performance to get the better of Denis Kudla. Humbert has served quite well in the tournament so far and has fired in 30 aces.
