The talented Jannie Sinner takes on Hungary’s Martin Fucsovics in the third round of the 2023 Australian Open on Friday.
The Italian tennis pro played in the Adelaide International 1 before coming to play in the Australian Open. He defeated Kyle Edmund and home favorite Thanasi Kokkinakis before losing to eventual finalist Sebastian Korda in the quarterfinals.
In the Australian Open, Sinner began with a confident win against Edmund in straight sets 6-4, 6-0, 6-2. The 21-year-old followed it up with another comprehensive victory against Argentine Tomas Martin Etcheverry. This match also was settled in straight sets 6-3, 6-2, 6-2. The 15th seed will look to continue with the good form in the third round.
The 30-year-old has already tasted success this season. He played in the Challenger event in Canberra earlier this month and won the title. At the Adelaide International 2, he lost to Robin Haase in a qualifying match.
In the first round of the Australian Open, Fucsovics produced a huge upset as he defeated Federico Coria in a five-set encounter after dropping two out of the first three sets. In the second round, he defeated South Africa’s Lloyd Harris in four sets 6-2, 6-3, 5-7, 6-4. Fucsovics has reached the fourth round at the Australian Open on a couple of occasions before. He has defeated Sinner a couple of times in the past and would be quietly confident going into the match.
Fucsovics has a slender 2-1 lead in the head-to-head scoreline against Sinner. The former managed to win their most recent encounter in the first round of the 2021 Wimbledon in four sets.
Prediction: Jannik Sinner to win in straight sets.
