Two seeded teams, Coco Gauff-Jessica Pegula and Chan Hao-ching-Yang Zhaoxuan square off in the quarterfinals of the 2023 Australian Open on Wednesday.
Jessica Pegula & Coco Gauff
The experienced Jessica Pegula has the chance to do the double as she can triumph in both the singles and the women’s doubles events. She has formed a formidable team with the exuberant Coco Gauff.
The 2nd-seeded team began their campaign in the Australian Open with a dramatic win against the team of Donna Vekic and Tereza Martincova. The match ended in three sets 7-6 (7-2), 3-6, 6-2 in favor of the American duo. Pegula and Gauff went on to face the team of Wang Xinyu and Moyuka Uchijima in the second round. They won the match relatively easily in straight sets 7-5, 6-1. In the third round, they played their best game and got the better of the 16th-seeded team of Aldila Sutjiadi in straight sets 6-4, 6-2.
Chan Hao-ching & Yang Zhaoxuan
The 11th-seeded team has played really well so far in the tournament and is yet to drop a set. They came into the tournament with a 0-2 record this season but have turned things around splendidly.
They produced a dominant display against Samantha Stosur and Alize Cornet in the first round and won the match 6-3, 6-4. In the second round, Hao-ching and Zhaoxuan eased past Cristina Bucsa and Makoto Ninomiya in straight sets 6-3, 6-3. Alison Van Uytvanck and Anhelina Kalinina locked horns with the Hao-ching and Zhaoxuan in the third round. However, they couldn’t take a set off the in-form duo and suffered a 3-6, 5-7 loss.
Prediction: Coco Gauff and Jessica Pegula to win in three sets.
