Third seed Jessica Pegula takes on 20th seed Barbora Krejcikova in the fourth round of the 2023 Australian Open on Sunday.
Jessica Pegula
The American tennis pro is in blistering form so far this year. She has won 14 out of the 16 sets she has played this season.
Her Australian Open campaign began with a comprehensive 6-0, 6-1 win against Jaqueline Cristian in the first round. Pegula followed it up with another dominant win against Aliaksandra Sasnovich in the second round. The match ended 6-2, 7-6 (7-5). Pegula’s domination continued in the third round as she outplayed the talented Marta Kostyuk in straight sets 6-0, 6-2. Kostyuk’s 8 double faults did her no good but the way Pegula was playing, she was simply looking invincible.
Barbora Krejcikova
The former world No. 2 came into the tournament on the back of an exit in the round of 16 at the Adelaide International 2.
Krejcikova began her Australian Open campaign with a solid 6-3, 6-1 win against compatriot Sara Bejlek. The 27-year-old followed it up with another thumping win against Clara Burel in the second round. The match ended 6-4, 6-1. In the third round, Krejcikova won another match in straight sets as she defeated Anhelina Kalinina 6-2, 6-3. Krejcikova has a stiff task in front of her against an in-form Pegula but she has played some good tennis herself and that should give her a lot of confidence.
Head-to-Head and Prediction
The two veterans have never faced each other so far. Therefore, the head-to-head scoreline currently stands at 0-0.
Prediction: Jessica Pegula to win in straight sets.
