The former world No. 1 Karolina Pliskova takes on Magda Linette in the quarterfinals of the 2023 Australian Open on Wednesday.
The 30th seed has reached the quarterfinals of the Australian Open for the fourth time and is yet to lose a set in this year’s competition.
Pliskova started her campaign with a convincing 6-1, 6-3 win against Xiyu Wang. In the second round, Pliskova got the better of Yulia Putintseva in another one-sided affair. The domination continued on the part of Pliskova as she defeated Varvara Gracheva in straight sets in the third round. In the fourth round, the 30-year-old defeated Chinese veteran Zhang Shuai 6-0, 6-4. In these four matches, Pliskova has accumulated an impressive total of 30 aces.
The Polish veteran has reached the quarterfinals of a Grand Slam for the first time in her career. She also pulled off one of the upsets of the tournament during her campaign.
Linette got going with a win in straight sets against Mayar Sherif. The match ended 7-5, 6-1 in favor of the 30-year-old. She bounced back from a loss in the first set and defeated 16th seed Anett Kontaveit 3-6, 6-3, 6-4. In the third round, Linette eased past 19th seed Ekaterina Alexandrova, winning the encounter in straight sets 6-3, 6-4. Linette produced a huge result in the fourth round as she ousted 4th seed Caroline Garcia in straight sets 7-6 (7-3), 6-4.
Karolina Pliskova has a comfortable 7-2 lead in the head-to-head scoreline against Magda Linette.
