Poland’s Magda Linette will take on 4th seed Caroline Garcia in the fourth round of the Australian Open
Magda Linette has been a surprise package so far at the Australian Open. The Polish veteran started his campaign with convincing straight sets win over Mayar Sherif. She followed it up with a hard-fought 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 victory against 16th seed Anett Kontaveit. The 30-year-old then defeated another seeded player in no.19 seed Ekaterina Alexandrova to set up a fourth-round clash against Caroline Garcia.
Linette is a very experience player and has been active on the WTA circuit for more than a decade. She has already shown that she is no pushover against higher ranked opponents. As an unseeded player, Linette has got nothing to lose, and she will be hoping to cause more upsets going forward in the tournament.
Caroline Garcia is seeded no.4 at the Australian Open and she is one of the favourites to clinch the title. Garcia began her campaign with straight sets win over Katherine Sebov and then registered another convincing victory against former US Open finalist Leylah Fernandez. Garcia carried her hot run of form to the third round and got the better of Germany’s Laura Siegmund without much ado.
Garcia has been making impressive strides on the WTA tour in the recent past. She ended 2022 on a high, making it to the finals of the season-ending WTA finals. She has now begun 2023 on a positive note and will be looking to go all the way in the first Grand Slam of the year.
