The Tsitsipas brothers take on the top-seeded team of Neal Skupski and Wesley Koolhof in the second round of the 2023 Australian Open on Saturday.
Stefanos Tsitsipas and Petros Tsitsipas
Stefanos is one of the contenders to win the singles event. However, he is also competing in the doubles event alongside his younger brother Petros.
The Greek duo pulled off a fine come-from-behind win against the team of Ramkumar Ramanathan and Miguel Angel Reyes-Varela in the first round. After losing the first set 3-6, the Tsitsipas brothers bounced back in the second set to win 7-5. The third set was won rather comfortably by Stefanos and Petros and they won the match 3-6, 7-5, 6-3. This win should give them a lot of confidence going into a very tough clash against the well-oiled team of Skupski and Koolhof.
Neal Skupski and Wesley Koolhof
Last year at the Australian Open, Skupski and Koolhof were ousted in the quarterfinals by the Australian duo of Matthew Ebden and Max Purcell. They produced their best result at a Grand Slam at the US Open as they finished runner-up.
In the first round, Skupski and Koolhof got the better of Alexander Bublik and John-Patrick Smith in a one-sided encounter that ended 6-1, 6-2. They had an impressive win percentage of 88 on the first serve. The team of Skupski and Koolhof is one of the frontrunners to win the competition. However, they wouldn’t want to be complacent.
Prediction: Neal Skupski and Wesley Koolhof to win in straight sets.
