The experienced Spaniard came into the tournament after suffering an exit in the round of 16 of the Adelaide International 2. Carreno Busta lost to eventual champion Soon-woo Kwon after winning the first set.

The 31-year-old locked horns with Argentina’s Pedro Cachin in the first round. Carreno Busta won the match in straight sets 7-6 (7-4), 6-1, 7-6 (7-3). During the match, the Gijon-born player fired 15 aces and did not commit a double fault. With a staggering win percentage of 89 on the first serve, Carreno Busta turned out to be too hot to handle for Cachin.

Benjamin Bonzi

The 26-year-old has played a couple of tournaments so far in 2023. In the Maharashtra Open, Bonzi made it to his first-ever WTA Tour-level final and lost to Tallon Griekspoor after bagging the first set. At the Adelaide International 2, Bonzi was ousted in the first round by Robin Haase.
