The team of Tereza Mihalikova and Aliaksandra Sasnovich has had to show a lot of grit and determination in their matches so far.
In the first round, Mihalikova and Sasnovich defeated the team of Lidziya Marozava and Han Xinyun. There wasn’t much to choose between the two teams but Mihalikova and Sasnovich managed to hold their nerves to advance. In the second round, they faced the 12th-seeded team of Taylor Townsend and Asia Muhammad. Sasnovich and Mihalikova won the match 6-2, 6-7 (4-7), 7-5 as they converted 7 out of 11 break points. The American duo came into the tournament after winning the Adelaide International 1 and would have been high on confidence. However, a spirited effort from Sasnovich and Mihalikova worked wonders.
Desirae Krawczyk and Demi Schuurs
The sixth-seeded team of Desirae Krawczyk and Demi Schuurs finished last season with a run to the semifinals at the WTA Finals. They were ousted in the quarterfinals of the Adelaide International 2 by Luisa Stefani and Taylor Townsend earlier this month.
In the first round, Krawczyk and Schuurs produced a compact performance to defeat the Australian duo of Petra Hule and Arina Rodionova in straight sets 6-1, 6-4. In the second round, they faced another Aussie duo of Priscilla Hon and Olivia Gadecki. Krawczyk and Schuurs won the match 6-2, 3-6, 6-3.
Prediction: Desirae Krawczyk and Demi Schuurs to win in three sets.
