Nick Kyrgios in men’s singles and Max Purcell and partner Matthew Ebden are Australia’s biggest gainers in the latest ATP rankings

Nick Kyrgios has made a massive jump of 17 spots in the latest ATP rankings. Kyrgios made it to the semi-finals of the recently concluded ATP Houston championships, which has played a big part in Kyrgios moving up the ladder. The 26-year-old is now ranked 77th in the world in men’s singles. Nick Kyrgios put up an impressive show at the ATP Houston event. Kyrgios defeated the much-fancied 7th seed Tommy Paul in straight sets 6-4, 6-2 in his journey to the semis. In the semis, Kyrgios lost to the eventual champion Reilly Opelka.

Meanwhile, the doubles pairing of Max Purcell and Matthew Ebden have also climbed up the ladder after winning the doubles title in Houston. The all-Australian pairing were seeded No.1 in the tournament and definitely lived up to expectations.

The top seeds Purcell and Ebden dominated the doubles draw in Houston. The pair didn’t drop a single set throughout the tournament and won every match in a comprehensive manner justifying the tag of No.1 seed.

Alex de Minnaur retains his place as Australia’s no.1 men’s singles player

Alex de Minnaur is presently placed 25th in the ATP rankings. The 23-year old is an emerging star in the men’s singles circuit and has put up a string of consistent performances this year although he hasn’t quite made it big yet. de Minnaur is currently playing at the Monte Carlo Masters and will be facing Zapata Miralles in his first round match later today.

In the latest rankings, John Peers is the highest-ranked Australian, in all categories combined. The doubles specialist has a world ranking of 10. He is set to begin his journey at the Monte Carlo Masters today along with Russian with partner Aslan Karatsev.

In the women’s categories, Ajla Tomljanovic (WTA 42) is the highest-ranked Australian in singles while veteran Samantha Stosur (WTA 12) is the highest-ranked Australian in doubles’ category.
